Where do cruise ships dock in Yokohama?
Yokohama has three cruise terminals: Osanbashi, Shinko Pier (Hammerhead) and Daikoku Pier. The city says Daikoku mainly handles very large ships that cannot pass under the Yokohama Bay Bridge. Your ship's terminal depends on the ship, so check your itinerary.
Is the cruise terminal in Tokyo?
No. Yokohama is its own city. The city's port guide says Yokohama is 25 minutes from Tokyo Station by JR lines, and Japan's tourism board says Yokohama Station is an hour or less from central Tokyo. Add the walk or ride from your pier to the nearest station.
How do I get from Osanbashi into Yokohama?
Walk about 7 minutes to Nihon-odori Station on the Minatomirai Line, or about 15 minutes to Kannai Station. The Akai Kutsu loop bus costs ¥220 per ride. A walking or food tour is another easy way to cover the area; browse the tours below.
Is Daikoku Pier close to town?
The city says the terminal has no cafés or shops, no convenience stores are nearby, and bus service is infrequent, so the port guide recommends taxis. Ask your ship about transfers, and use the time-ashore filter to pick a tour that fits.
Can I visit Kamakura on a port day?
It is possible with a long enough call. Visit Kanagawa lists about 25 minutes by JR Yokosuka Line from Yokohama, and the Kamakura Great Buddha is open until 5 or 5:30 p.m. depending on the season. Add the time from your pier to the station, and look at guided tours that handle the transfers.
Do I need Japanese yen?
Yes. Many places take cards, but not all, so bring some cash. Seven Bank ATMs in 7-Eleven stores accept many international cards, and the city lists currency exchange at all three cruise terminals.
Is Yokohama safe for cruise visitors?
The US State Department rates Japan Level 1, its lowest advisory level, and says crime against US citizens is low. Watch for pickpockets in crowds and on trains.
