Yes. Ships dock at the Joan Harriss Cruise Pavilion on the waterfront, and the port's walking map shows sights, shops and food within walking distance. If your ship uses the second berth, ask the cruise line how to reach the pavilion.
Can I get to the Fortress of Louisbourg on my own?
It is about 40 minutes from Sydney by road, and there is no rideshare on Cape Breton, so you would need a pre-booked taxi or rental car. A booked tour is simpler, especially in the fall when the site shuttle doesn't run. Allow plenty of time: Tourism Nova Scotia suggests at least four hours, and the site closes at 5 p.m. Browse the tours and use the time-ashore filter.
How much does the Fortress of Louisbourg cost?
Parks Canada lists adult admission at $22 in peak season (July 1 to the second Friday in September) and $9.50 in the shoulder seasons (CAD). Youth are free. Check Parks Canada before you go.
Can I see the Cabot Trail on a port day?
Part of it. The full loop is nearly 300 km, so look for a tour that covers one section and fits your time ashore. Use the time-ashore filter in the tours list.
Are Uber or Lyft available in Sydney, Nova Scotia?
No. Destination Cape Breton says ride-hailing apps work only around Halifax. Use phone-dispatched taxis, Transit Cape Breton buses or a booked tour.
What currency is used in Sydney?
The Canadian dollar (CAD). Prices usually don't include sales tax, which is added when you pay.
