4hours ashore

Breakwater, Fisherman's Wharf and the Inner Harbour

  1. Start right next to the terminal on the Breakwater, a barrier-free walkway about 760 m long with the Unity Wall mural.
  2. Walk about 10 minutes to Fisherman's Wharf for fish and chips, ice cream and a look at the float homes.
  3. Walk on about 15 minutes to the Inner Harbour and the Parliament Buildings. In summer, Victoria Harbour Ferry has a water-taxi kiosk on the wharf.
  4. If you're ashore before 5 p.m., the Royal BC Museum on Belleville Street is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  5. Head back with time to spare before all-aboard. Short evening calls fill up fast, so a short guided tour is a good way to see more in less time; use the time-ashore filter to find one.

6hours ashore

Butchart Gardens

  1. The gardens are in Brentwood Bay, about 22 km from Victoria and a 35–45 minute drive from downtown, depending on traffic.
  2. The easiest way is a tour that includes transport and admission. Bus tours to the gardens leave from the terminal, and the time-ashore filter shows the ones that fit your call.
  3. The admission gates close an hour before the gardens do, so plan to be through the gate in good time.
  4. Check the gate hours for your date before you book. In October 2026 the gates were open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

8hours ashore

Gardens in the morning, downtown in the afternoon

  1. Book a Butchart Gardens tour, or take the shuttle downtown and ride BC Transit route 75 from Belleville at Government Street (50–60 minutes, $3 single or $6 DayPASS). Some afternoon 75 buses don't go to the gardens, so check the sign.
  2. Back downtown, take a free guided tour of the Parliament Buildings on a weekday, or visit the Royal BC Museum.
  3. Wednesday to Sunday, Craigdarroch Castle is about a 2 km uphill walk from downtown, just off Fort Street. The ticket office closes 45 minutes before the 4:30 p.m. close.
  4. Finish at Fisherman's Wharf, a 10-minute walk from the ship, and leave plenty of time for all-aboard.

Ship tour or go independent?

Victoria is an easy port to do your own way. Ships dock, shuttles and taxis wait at the terminal, and you can walk to Fisherman's Wharf and on into town. Booking your own Butchart Gardens or whale-watching tour gives you more choice of times and group sizes, and tour operators work right from the terminal. On a short call, the ship's own tours suit anyone who would rather leave the timing to the cruise line. Browse the tours and use the time-ashore filter to see what fits your call.

  • Calls here can be short. Check your hours ashore and pick a tour that ends well before all-aboard.
  • Butchart Gardens is about 35–45 minutes each way by road from downtown, and the bus takes 50–60 minutes. Allow for the round trip plus time in the gardens.
  • Museums and attractions close by late afternoon: the Royal BC Museum at 5 p.m., Craigdarroch Castle and the Parliament Buildings at 4:30 p.m.
  • Parliament Buildings tours run Monday to Friday only, and Craigdarroch Castle is closed Monday and Tuesday.
  • BC Transit says some Victoria trips may be delayed or cancelled from October 5, 2026 because of a union overtime ban. Check its service alerts before relying on the bus.
