Do cruise ships dock in St. Barts?
No. Gustavia has no cruise dock, so ships anchor off the harbor and tender you into town. Allow time for tender lines, then pick a tour or a beach that fits your hours ashore.
Can I walk to Shell Beach from the tender landing?
Yes. Shell Beach is about a five-minute walk from Gustavia, and Fort Karl sits on the hill above it.
Do I need euros, or can I pay in US dollars?
The euro is the official currency, but US dollars are widely used. Shops set their own exchange rates, so paying in euros or by card can work out better. ATMs are easy to find.
How do I get to Saline or Gouverneur beach?
Take a taxi from the stand by the ferry dock. There are no buses. Taxis are not metered, so agree the fare first.
Are there tours I can book myself in St. Barts?
Very few right now. Viator lists almost nothing for the island, so the ship's own excursions are a fair choice here, especially for boat trips. Check our tours list with the time-ashore filter in case new options appear.
Is St. Barts safe for cruise visitors?
The US State Department rates it Level 1, its lowest level. Watch for petty theft, keep valuables with you, and avoid empty beaches after dark.
