Can I walk from the cruise ship into Prince Rupert?
Yes. The Northland Cruise Terminal sits right beside Cow Bay, and the Museum of Northern BC and Pacific Mariners Memorial Park are on foot too. Browse the walking and culture tours if you'd like a local guide.
Can I see grizzly bears from Prince Rupert?
Yes, from mid-May to the end of July. The Khutzeymateen sanctuary is about 45 km northeast and open only to visitors arriving by water with a permitted guide. You watch from the water; landing is not allowed. Use the time-ashore filter to find a trip that fits your call.
How do I get to the North Pacific Cannery?
It is about 24 km from town in Port Edward. Go by taxi or on a tour that includes it. Admission was $18 for adults in 2025 and includes a guided tour. It is open May to September, closed Mondays except in July and August.
Is there a bus from the cruise terminal?
BC Transit buses run around town Monday to Saturday for $2 a ride or $4 for a day pass, paid in exact cash, by contactless card or in the Umo app. Route 51 stops at Cow Bay. There is no service on Sundays or holidays.
Do I need Canadian dollars?
Prices are in Canadian dollars. Contactless cards work on the buses and the North Pacific Cannery takes cards, but carry some cash in case card machines go down.
Will it rain on my port day?
Quite likely. Prince Rupert gets about 250 cm of rain a year and the weather turns quickly, so bring a waterproof layer and choose boat tours with covered seating.
Is Prince Rupert safe for cruise visitors?
The US State Department rates Canada Level 1, its lowest advisory level (issued June 5, 2026). Watch for petty theft and car break-ins in tourist areas.
