Pick your time ashore and we’ll flag the tours that get you back to the ship with time to spare. Tours marked Shore excursion are planned around cruise days; the rest are popular local tours that fit a day in port. Sort by price or reviews, or browse every Wellington tour on Viator.
A tour fits when its length plus 90 minutes to get there and back is within your time ashore.

Wellington suits an independent day. A shuttle brings you into the city, where the cable car, Te Papa, Cuba Street and city buses are all on offer. Booking your own tour gives you more choice, smaller groups and a pace you set; day trips such as Wētā Workshop and the Wairarapa wine region are well suited to independent tours. The ship's excursions suit anyone who would rather leave the timing to the cruise line. Browse the tours below and use the time-ashore filter to find one that fits your call.
Getting around
Rideshare limited
No official source covers rideshare at the cruise berth. CentrePort says taxis can't pick up at the wharf, so use the shuttle stop or a spot in the city.

FAQ
CentrePort has berths dedicated to cruise ships but doesn't name one. Tourism New Zealand says ships berth at Aotea Quay. There is no public access to the cruise berth, so passengers ride a shuttle into the city.
Take the cruise shuttle to Wakefield Street. CentrePort says to ask ship staff about shuttle and walking options. Taxis can't pick up at the wharf. Once in town, a walking or food tour is an easy way to cover the sights; browse the tours below.
Entry is free for New Zealanders and people living in New Zealand. International visitors aged 16 and over pay NZ$35, and the ticket lasts 48 hours. Under-16s from overseas enter free.
An adult ticket is $7.00 one way or $13.00 return, and children aged 5–15 pay $3.50 one way. The ride takes about 5 minutes, and online tickets skip the queue.
It is possible only with a long enough call. Driving takes just over an hour to Featherston, with about 15 more minutes on to Martinborough or Greytown, each way. A wine tour that handles the driving suits it; use the time-ashore filter to pick one that fits your call.
Cards are widely used and tipping is optional. Displayed prices include 15% GST. Cash is handy for small purchases, and the bus fare is lower on a Snapper or contactless card than in cash.
